ABOUT ME

Artist Statement

I focus on my unique experiences as a young women trying to navigate through the new age in the endless pursuit of authenticity, creation, and healing. I use a lot of bright saturated colors to convey how I perceive the world around me while the subject matter of my work is always presenting a unique and personal experience or emotion. These scenes and moments come off as dream-like as I explore the realms between reality and imagination. As someone who is Gen Z, I have a clear connection to the unique interests and experiences of my generation and like to explore the world from this brand new and untapped perspective. I believe this perspective is important to highlight as we are the future leaders and innovators. I also enjoy exploring the unlikely connection and contrast between things such as beauty and pain or the past and the future. I draw a lot of inspiration from my photographs, with photography I am able to capture a brief flash of a moment that tells a story or evokes a faint but familiar emotion while curating my vision and perspective in a more refined way. I also draw inspiration from religious imagery, fleeting moments in time, and nature. Combining these elements, I create work that is extremely personal and unique. By reflecting on my own life and experiences while embracing my yearning for authenticity I hope to inspire others to do the same.

I JUST WANNA BE ME WHEN I GROW UP...

As a multi-faceted artist, I believe that the artist is the art and the medium in which they choose to express that is merely preference. Our unique way of perceiving the world and the distinct ways in which we can communicate things that cannot be said with words through colors and images plays an integral role in society. Through art, we can create things that were never in existence before and give them profound meaning. Art causes introspection for both the artist and the audience, it pushes you to look deeper within yourself and the society we live in as well as our part and contribution.
Although I primarily focus on painting, I choose to tell my story through many mediums such as photography, sculpture, and clothing. I draw inspiration from religious imagery, nature, and organic snapshots of time. Combining these elements, I create work that is extremely personal and introspective. I take scenes from life that encompass my personality and solidify them forever, one example of this is my piece “A Modern Day Renaissance”. I wanted to encapsulate my time at art school and represent my authentic self through everything but my physical body. In the background is all my work in my studio, including garments I have painted on and my self portrait of me as Jesus. The figure in the center is smoking a vape, a symbol of my generation, while the smoke eludes to a quick moment in time. The paints along with the laptop represent my pursuit of higher education in the arts.
Through my landscapes I like to take quick snapshots of nature’s beauty and display it through my dream-like perspective. These landscapes are a bridge between reality and fantasy and often elude to a yearning for healing and a better future. I prefer to paint clouds and sunsets because although there are an infinite number of sunsets, they are all totally unique in their own way and beautiful for different reasons, similarly to humans. Whether the work is figurative, fantasy, or landscapes the underlying thread is embracing the hidden uniqueness in every moment.
